Bradley Samuels is a founding partner at Situ Studio, which is a self-described “research, design, and fabrication firm.”  The firm was founded in 2005 in Brooklyn, NY, while its four partners were studying architecture at Cooper Union. A core commitment to material investigation as well as research and writing allows for the studio to develop flexible and multifaceted strategies to approach spatial problems. This dual emphasis enables the studio’s design process to constantly oscillate between the virtual and physical realms at all stages of a project’s development.

Some of Situ Studio’s built projects include a granite memorial in Far Rockaway, New York, for Flight 587, which crashed there in 2001, and an ongoing commission to produce eco-friendly pavilions for New York’s Solar One summer festival, CitySol.  At the same time as the firm put their CNC mill to good use by building models and consulting for A-List architects, such as Polshek Partnership, SOM, and Eisenman Architects, they have been able to conduct less-lucrative, self-motivated research. The firm has focused on research because “it allows us to think about space outside of architectural conventions,” according to founding partner Westley Rozen. In 2006, the firm received the Award for Excellence in Design by the Art Commission of the City of New York.

Bradley has lectured extensively on the role of digital tools for both digital design as well as digital fabrication including, most recently, at the AIA Center for Architecture, The Museum of Modern Art and Columbia University.
